ಬನ್ನಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ! ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಕಥೆ... ಸಿಂಹ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲಿ!
Come, children! Today's story... The Lion and the Mouse!
ಒಂದಾನೊಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ, ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಾಡು ಇತ್ತು. ಆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸಿಂಹ ವಾಸವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
Once upon a time, there was a big forest. A lion lived in that forest.
ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ, ಸಿಂಹ ಮರದ ನೆರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಢವಾಗಿ ನಿದ್ದೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಗೊರ್... ಗೊರ್...
One afternoon, the lion was fast asleep in the shade of a tree. Snore... snore...
ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಇಲಿ ಆಟವಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅದು ಓಡುತ್ತಾ, ಓಡುತ್ತಾ, ಸಿಂಹದ ಮೈಮೇಲೆ ಹತ್ತಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತು!
Right there, a little mouse was playing. Running and running, it climbed right up onto the lion!
ಸಿಂಹಕ್ಕೆ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಯಿತು! ಅದು ತನ್ನ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಂಜದಿಂದ ಇಲಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿತು.
The lion woke up! It caught the mouse with its big paw.
ಯಾರ್ ಅದು? ನನ್ನ ನಿದ್ದೆ ಕೆಡಿಸಿದವರು ಯಾರು?
Who is that? Who disturbed my sleep?
ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಸಿಂಹರಾಜ! ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡಿ. ನಾನು ತುಂಬಾ ಪುಟ್ಟವನು. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ನಾನೂ ನಿಮಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.
Oh no, King Lion! Please let me go. I am very small. One day, I will help you too.
ಹ ಹ ಹ! ಇಷ್ಟು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಇಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಸರಿ ಸರಿ, ಹೋಗು!
Ha ha ha! A mouse this tiny will help me? All right, all right, go!
ಸಿಂಹ ತನ್ನ ಪಂಜವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿತು. ಪುಟ್ಟ ಇಲಿ ಖುಷಿಯಿಂದ ಓಡಿಹೋಯಿತು.
The lion lifted its paw. The little mouse happily ran away.
ಕೆಲವು ದಿನಗಳ ನಂತರ, ಕಾಡಿಗೆ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಬೇಟೆಗಾರರು ಬಂದರು. ಅವರು ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿದರು.
A few days later, two hunters came to the forest. They tied a big net up in a tree.
ಸಿಂಹ ಆರಾಮವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಬಂತು. ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಬಲೆ ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿತ್ತು! ಸಿಂಹ ಬಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿತು.
The lion came walking along, without a care. Oh no! The net fell on it! The lion was trapped in the net.
ಸಿಂಹ ಎಷ್ಟು ಒದ್ದಾಡಿದರೂ, ಬಲೆ ಬಿಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆಗ ಸಿಂಹ ಜೋರಾಗಿ ಘರ್ಜಿಸಿತು.
No matter how hard the lion struggled, the net did not let go. Then the lion roared loudly.
ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ! ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ! ಯಾರಾದರೂ ನನಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ!
Oh no! Help! Help! Somebody, help me!
ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಇಲಿಗೆ ಆ ಘರ್ಜನೆ ಕೇಳಿಸಿತು. ಅದು ಓಡೋಡಿ ಬಂತು.
The little mouse, far away, heard that roar. It came running.
ಹೆದರಬೇಡಿ, ಸಿಂಹರಾಜ! ನಾನು ಬಂದೆ!
Don't be afraid, King Lion! I'm here!
ಇಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಚೂಪಾದ ಹಲ್ಲುಗಳಿಂದ ಹಗ್ಗಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯಿತು. ಕಟ್! ಕಟ್! ಕಟ್! ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ಹಗ್ಗ ತುಂಡಾಯಿತು.
The mouse bit through the ropes with its sharp teeth. Snip! Snip! Snip! One by one, the ropes broke.
ನೋಡನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ, ಸಿಂಹ ಬಲೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂತು. ಸಿಂಹ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಯಿತು!
In no time at all, the lion came out of the net. The lion was free!
ಧನ್ಯವಾದ, ಪುಟ್ಟ ಗೆಳೆಯ! ನೀನು ಚಿಕ್ಕವನಾದರೂ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ತುಂಬಾ ದೊಡ್ಡದು.
Thank you, little friend! Even though you are small, your heart is very big.
ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ, ಸಿಂಹ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಗೆಳೆಯರಾದರು. ಅವರು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಆಡಿದರು, ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ನಕ್ಕರು.
From that day on, the lion and the mouse were good friends. They played together and laughed together.
ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ಈ ಕಥೆಯ ನೀತಿ ಏನು ಗೊತ್ತಾ? ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ಚಿಕ್ಕವರೆಂದು ಕಡೆಗಣಿಸಬಾರದು. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯತನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯತನವೇ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲ!
