Come, children! Today's story... The Little Duck!
ಒಂದಾನೊಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ, ಒಂದು ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ, ಒಂದು ಚಂದದ ಕೆರೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಕೆರೆಯ ತುಂಬಾ ತಾವರೆ ಹೂವುಗಳು.
Once upon a time, near a village, there was a lovely lake. The lake was full of lotus flowers.
ಕೆರೆಯ ದಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಬಾತುಕೋಳಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಹಳದಿ ಗರಿ, ಕಿತ್ತಳೆ ಕೊಕ್ಕು. ಅದರ ಹೆಸರು ಚಿನ್ನು!
On the bank of the lake lived a little duck. Yellow feathers, an orange beak. Her name was Chinnu!
ಚಿನ್ನು ಅತ್ತ ಇತ್ತ ತೂಗುತ್ತಾ, ಟಪ ಟಪ, ಟಪ ಟಪ ಎಂದು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಬನ್ನಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ನಾವೂ ಹಾಗೇ ನಡೆಯೋಣ!
Chinnu waddled this way and that, tap tap, tap tap. Come, children, let's walk like her too!
ಕ್ವಾಕ್! ಕ್ವಾಕ್! ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ! ನಾನು ಚಿನ್ನು. ನನಗೆ ಟಪ ಟಪ ನಡೆಯುವುದು ತುಂಬಾ ಇಷ್ಟ!
Quack! Quack! Hello, children! I am Chinnu. I love to walk tap tap!
ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಆಮೆ ಈಜುತ್ತಿತ್ತು, ಮೀನುಗಳು ಆಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಆದರೆ ಚಿನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಸಲವೂ ನೀರಿಗೆ ಇಳಿದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ!
In the lake, a tortoise was swimming and the fish were playing. But Chinnu had never once gone into the water!
ಬಾ ಚಿನ್ನು, ಬಾ! ನೀರು ತುಂಬಾ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ. ಬಾ, ನನ್ನ ಜೊತೆ ಈಜು!
Come, Chinnu, come! The water is lovely. Come and swim with me!
ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಬೇಡ, ಬೇಡ! ಕೆರೆ ತುಂಬಾ ದೊಡ್ಡದು. ನನಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಭಯ ಆಗುತ್ತೆ!
Oh no, no, no! The lake is very big. I feel a little scared!
ಚಿನ್ನು ಮೆಲ್ಲಗೆ ಒಂದು ಕಾಲನ್ನು ನೀರಿಗೆ ಇಟ್ಟಿತು... ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ತಣ್ಣಗೆ! ಚಿನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಓಡಿ ಬಂತು.
Chinnu slowly put one foot into the water... Oh, it's cold! Chinnu ran back.
ಅಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಳೆಯರು ಬಂದರು. ಕಾ ಕಾ ಎನ್ನುವ ಕಾಗೆ, ಅಂಬಾ ಎನ್ನುವ ಕರು, ಮತ್ತು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಇಲಿ!
Just then, her friends came. The crow who says caw caw, the calf who says moo, and the little mouse!
ಕಾ! ಕಾ! ಚಿನ್ನು, ನಿನ್ನ ಕಾಲು ನೋಡು! ಅಗಲವಾದ ಕಿತ್ತಳೆ ಕಾಲುಗಳು. ಅವು ಈಜುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕಾಲುಗಳು!
Caw! Caw! Chinnu, look at your feet! Wide orange feet. Those feet are made for swimming!
ಹೆದರಬೇಡ, ಚಿನ್ನು! ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದೇವೆ. ಬನ್ನಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ನಾವೂ ಜೋರಾಗಿ ಹೇಳೋಣ!
Don't be scared, Chinnu! We are all right here. Come, children, let's all say it loudly!
ಈಜು, ಚಿನ್ನು, ಈಜು! ನಿನ್ನಿಂದ ಆಗುತ್ತೆ! ಈಜು, ಚಿನ್ನು, ಈಜು!

ಚಿನ್ನು ದಡದ ತುದಿಗೆ ಬಂತು. ಬನ್ನಿ, ಎಣಿಸೋಣ! ಒಂದು... ಎರಡು... ಮೂರು!
Chinnu came to the edge of the bank. Come, let's count! One... two... three!
ಡುಬುಕ್! ಚಿನ್ನು ನೀರಿಗೆ ಹಾರಿತು! ನೋಡಿ, ಚಿನ್ನು ನೀರಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ತೇಲುತ್ತಿದೆ, ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ದೋಣಿಯ ಹಾಗೆ!
Splash! Chinnu jumped into the water! Look, Chinnu is floating on the water, like a little boat!
ಓಹೋ! ನಾನು ತೇಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ! ನನ್ನ ಕಾಲುಗಳು ಈಜುತ್ತಿವೆ! ಕ್ವಾಕ್! ಕ್ವಾಕ್!
Oho! I'm floating! My feet are swimming! Quack! Quack!
ಚಿನ್ನು ಕಾಲು ಆಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಈಜುತ್ತಾ, ಈಜುತ್ತಾ, ಕೆರೆಯ ತುಂಬಾ ಆಡಿತು. ಚಪ್! ಚಪ್! ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮೇಲೆ ನೀರು ಎರಚಿತು!
Paddling her feet, swimming and swimming, Chinnu played all over the lake. Splish! Splosh! She splashed water on everyone!
ಆಮೆ ಹೇಳಿತು, ಈಗ ನೀರಿಗೆ ಧುಮುಕು! ಚಿನ್ನು ನೀರಿಗೆ ಧುಮುಕಿತು! ಬಾಲ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮೇಲೆ! ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ಚಿನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲಿ?
The tortoise said, "Now dive into the water!" Chinnu dived into the water! Only her tail is sticking up! Children, where is Chinnu?
ಕ್ವಾಕ್! ಕ್ವಾಕ್! ನಾನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ! ನನಗೆ ಧುಮುಕುವುದೂ ಬರುತ್ತೆ!
Quack! Quack! Here I am! I can dive too!
ಚಿನ್ನು, ನನಗೆ ಆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ತಾವರೆ ಹೂವನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ನೋಡಬೇಕು. ಆದರೆ ನನಗೆ ಈಜಲು ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
Chinnu, I want to see that big lotus flower up close. But I can't swim.
ಚಿಂತೆ ಬೇಡ, ಇಲಿ! ನನ್ನ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೋ. ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ!
Don't worry, Mouse! Sit on my back. I will take you there!
ಇಲಿ ಚಿನ್ನುವಿನ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತು, ತಾವರೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಹೋಯಿತು. ಕಾಗೆ ಹಾರಿತು, ಕರು ಕುಣಿಯಿತು. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತುಂಬಾ ಖುಷಿ!
The mouse sat on Chinnu's back and went close to the lotus. The crow flew, and the calf danced. Everyone was so happy!
