ಬನ್ನಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ! ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಕಥೆ... ಬಾಯಾರಿದ ಕಾಗೆ!
Come, children! Today's story... The Thirsty Crow!
ಒಂದಾನೊಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ, ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಹಳ್ಳಿ ಇತ್ತು. ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯ ಒಂದು ದಿನ, ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲೂ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಿಸಿಲು!
Once upon a time, there was a little village. One summer day, the sun was very hot everywhere!
ಒಂದು ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಕಾಗೆ ಕುಳಿತಿತ್ತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆ ಆಗಿತ್ತು.
A little crow was sitting in a tree. It was very thirsty.
ಕಾ! ಕಾ! ಅಬ್ಬಾ, ಎಷ್ಟು ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆ! ನನಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನೀರು ಬೇಕು!
Caw! Caw! Oh my, I'm so thirsty! I need some water!
ಕಾಗೆ ನೀರು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಾ ಹಾರಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕೆರೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಕೆರೆ ಒಣಗಿ ಹೋಗಿತ್ತು.
The crow flew off, looking for water. There was a pond. Oh no! The pond had dried up.
ಮುಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಹೊಳೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಹೊಳೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ನೀರು ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
Further on, there was a stream. Oh no! There was no water in the stream either.
ಆಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಬಕೆಟ್ ಕಾಣಿಸಿತು. ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಬಕೆಟ್ ಕೂಡ ಖಾಲಿ!
Then it saw a bucket. Oh no! The bucket was empty too!
ಕಾಗೆ ಹಾರುತ್ತಾ, ಹಾರುತ್ತಾ, ಒಂದು ಮನೆಯ ಅಂಗಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಮಡಕೆ ಇತ್ತು!
Flying and flying, the crow came to the yard of a house. There was a pot there!
ಆಹಾ! ಮಡಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಇದೆ! ಈಗ ನಾನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತುಂಬಾ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತೇನೆ!
Aha! There is water in the pot! Now I will drink water till my tummy is full!
ಆದರೆ ನೀರು ತುಂಬಾ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಕಾಗೆಯ ಕೊಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ನೀರು ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
But the water was far down. The crow's beak could not reach the water.
ಪಾಪ, ಕಾಗೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಆದರೂ ನೀರು ಸಿಗಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.
Poor crow, it tried again and again. But still, it just could not reach the water.
ಕಾಗೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕುಳಿತು ಯೋಚಿಸಿತು. ಯೋಚಿಸಿತು, ಯೋಚಿಸಿತು... ಈಗ ಏನು ಮಾಡುವುದು?
The crow sat quietly and thought. It thought and thought... Now what to do?
ಆಹಾ! ಒಂದು ಉಪಾಯ! ಈ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಡಕೆಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದರೆ, ನೀರು ಮೇಲೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ!
Aha! An idea! If I put these stones into the pot, the water will come up!
ಕಾಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ, ಮಡಕೆಗೆ ಹಾಕತೊಡಗಿತು. ಬನ್ನಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ನಾವೂ ಎಣಿಸೋಣ!
The crow began to pick up the stones one by one and drop them into the pot. Come, children, let's count too!
ಒಂದು! ಎರಡು! ಮೂರು!
One! Two! Three!
ನೋಡಿ, ನೋಡಿ! ನೀರು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂತು! ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹಾಕೋಣ!
Look, look! The water came up a little! Let's put in more stones!
ನಾಲ್ಕು! ಐದು! ಆರು! ಏಳು! ಎಂಟು! ಒಂಬತ್ತು! ಹತ್ತು!
Four! Five! Six! Seven! Eight! Nine! Ten!
ಹತ್ತು ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳು! ನೋಡಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ನೀರು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂತು!
Ten stones! Look, children, the water came up!
ಕಾಗೆ ಖುಷಿಯಿಂದ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿಯಿತು. ಗುಟುಕ್! ಗುಟುಕ್! ಗುಟುಕ್!
The crow happily drank the water. Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!
ಕಾ! ಕಾ! ಆಹಾ, ಎಷ್ಟು ತಣ್ಣನೆಯ ನೀರು! ಧನ್ಯವಾದ, ಪುಟ್ಟ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳೇ!
Caw! Caw! Aha, what cool water! Thank you, little stones!
ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆ ತೀರಿದ ಕಾಗೆ, ಕಾ ಕಾ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಖುಷಿಯಿಂದ ಹಾರಿ ಹೋಯಿತು. ತಂಪಾದ ಗಾಳಿ ಬೀಸಿತು.
No longer thirsty, the crow flew away happily, calling caw, caw. A cool breeze blew.
ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ಈ ಕಥೆಯ ನೀತಿ ಏನು ಗೊತ್ತಾ? ಯೋಚಿಸಿದರೆ ದಾರಿ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಬಿಡಬಾರದು!
